What is the Y.E.S initiative?
The Y.E.S (Youth Employment Scheme) was gazetted on the 28th of August 2018, with its main purpose being job creation for individuals who qualify as a youth. Y.E.S has been described as a business-driven initiative which partner business with government and labour in a concerted effort to collectively tackle economic pathways for black youth.
To whom does Y.E.S apply
Y.E.S focuses on youth between the ages 18 and 35, by providing work experience for one year, giving young people a chance to demonstrate their abilities, establish their work ethic and prove their worth. The end result of the work experience is a CV, a reference letter, credibility and an empowered young person who has access to a digital platform to gain future work.
How to register with Y.E.S
Y.E.S Measured entities will have to register with Yes 4 Youth: www.yes4youth.co.za.
It is important that before an entity register for Yes 4 Youth they need to make sure that they comply with the pre-requisites:
- They must maintain or improve their BEE level to be able to participate in Y.E.S;
- Should they not be able to maintain or improve their B-BBEE level they need to apply with the DTI B-BBEE Policy unit to obtain approval;
- Please contact your B-BBEE legal advisor to confirm the reasons that will qualify for not maintaining or improving your B-BBEE level;
- The entity must also comply with the sub-minimum requirements for the priority elements before they can participate in the program.

How will companies benefit from Y.E.S?
Should entities meet all the Y.E.S qualifying criteria and pre-conditions, which include conducting Y.E.S-specific learning programs? Participation in Y.E.S can assist entities to enhance their overall BEE status with up to 2 levels.
