The Minister of Employment and Labour recently declared that the National Bargaining Council of the Leather Industry of South Africa’s Agency Shop Amending Collective Agreement, Provident Fund Amending Collective Agreement and the Footwear Section Technological Fund Amending Collective Agreement would not only apply to the employees’ and employers’ organizations that are signatories to the main agreement but that it would be extended to all non-signatory parties falling within the leather industry.
Therefore, if your operations comprise the manufacturing of mainly leather products, however not limited to only leather products, such as footwear, travel bags, handbags, sporting equipment, as well as an array of other leather products and/or the tanning, dressing or fell mongering of hides and skins, your company will be bound to comply with these agreements.
The Agency Shop Amending Collective Agreement and the Provident Fund Amending Collective Agreement will be binding on all non-parties until 30 June 2027. Furthermore, the Footwear Section Technological Fund Amending Collective Agreement will be binding until 10 May 2028.
