The B-BBEE Certificate Portal

A step in the right direction to oust fraudulent/fake B-BBEE Certificates

The advent of the B-BBEE Certificate portal comes as a breath of fresh air to the public, business owners and governmental organisations to weed out fake and fraudulent B-BBEE Certificates.

The flagship B-BBEE Certificate portal that was introduced by the Department of Trade and Industry sadly closed their online platform on the 30 April 2013. Much to the delight of Registered Approved Auditors and Accredited Verification Agencies the B-BBEE Commission within the ambit of the DTI has introduced a B-BBEE Certificate Portal. This has made the authentication of a B-BBEE Certificate/s extremely user-friendly and accessible to the general public.

All information is quality assured by the B-BBEE Commission prior to publication leaving no room for error.

One should however not be alarmed if the most recent certificate/s are not found, as the portal is being updated constantly by the commission.

There has also been mention that the Portal is going to be integrated into the Central Supplier Database (CSD) which is managed by National Treasury. In the time it is believed that hard copies of B-BBEE Certificates will be obsolete by Governmental organisations since the information will be found on the CSD,

much like the same way the public does not send hard copies of Tax Clearance Certificates regarding proposals and quotations.

The portal can be found on the B-BBEE Commission website: portal.bbbeecommission.co.za

We look forward to the constant ingenuity that the B-BBEE Commission has shown thus far in improving the B-BBEE landscape.
